Paragons
Paragons are rare, stronger variants of normal monsters. Every paragon carries a Paragon Chest in its loot, making them well worth hunting.

Types
There are two kinds of paragons:
- Grand Paragon — a stronger variant of the original creature.
- Elite Paragon — even stronger than a Grand Paragon.
You can identify a paragon by its name prefix ("a grand ..." / "an elite ...") and by the color-coded [Paragon] tag shown above its head on single-click: blue for Grand, purple for Elite. Paragons are also visibly larger than their normal kin (about 10% for Grand, 15% for Elite).
Creature difficulty
| Modifier | Grand Paragon | Elite Paragon |
|---|---|---|
| Hit points | x2 | x3 |
| Strength / Dexterity / Intelligence | x1.2 | x1.4 |
| All skills | x1.2 | x1.4 |
| Damage | x1.2 | x1.3 |
| Fame / Karma | x1.5 | x2.5 |
Behavior
- Paragons are far more aggressive than regular monsters — they instantly lock onto and pursue any enemy that comes within 10 tiles and line of sight, while regular monsters only look for targets periodically.
- Paragons never flee from combat.
- A paragon's poison is one level stronger than its base type's.
- Paragons can never be tamed.
Spawn chances
Whenever a creature spawns, there is a chance it becomes a paragon. The chance depends on where it spawns:
| Region | Grand Paragon | Elite Paragon |
|---|---|---|
| Overland | 0.5% | — |
| Dungeon level 1 | 1% | — |
| Dungeon level 2 | 0.5% | 0.5% |
| Dungeon level 3 | — | 1% |
Animals, vendors, escortables, summons, pets and creatures in the newbie dungeon never become paragons.
Loot
Paragon loot is scaled up along with the creature's boosted stats and skills. In addition, every paragon drops a Paragon Chest on its corpse.

Paragon Chest
The chest comes in levels 1–6, color-coded by the same resource hues used for dungeon chests (iron, shadow, copper, bronze, verite, valorite). Higher levels are rarer; your chance of a high-level chest improves with:
- your Luck,
- killing an Elite rather than a Grand Paragon,
- the toughness (loot stage) of the creature.
The chest is locked and trapped like a dungeon chest: you must pick the lock with the lockpicking mini-game and deal with the trap before looting (on level 1 chests, Telekinesis can be used to open the picked chest — and set off its trap — from a safe distance). Unlike dungeon chests, a Paragon Chest is movable — you can carry it home and open it later.
What's inside
Every paragon chest contains:
- Gold — roughly 300–400 per chest level
- Two gems, with a luck-based chance of a third
- A ~30% chance of an ID wand (improved by Luck)
- Level 3 and up: always a skill scroll
Plus exactly one special item, on a table of its own — paragon chests do not use the shared table that dungeon, treasure and SOS chests roll on:
| Level | Special item |
|---|---|
| 1 | Skill scroll or Uncommon pigment (50/50) |
| 2 | Skill scroll or Uncommon pigment (50/50) |
| 3 | Skill cap increase ball or Uncommon pigment (50/50) |
| 4 | Skill cap increase ball or Uncommon/Rare pigment (50/50) |
| 5 | 15% chance of a lantern or torch in a special hue — otherwise a pigment of any rarity |
| 6 | 20% chance of a lantern or torch in a special hue — otherwise a pigment of any rarity |
The hued lantern and torch at levels 5–6 are the only place those drop.
