Remove Trap
Remove Trap disarms the traps guarding treasure chests. On UO Sagas every serious chest — dungeon chests and treasure map chests — arms an explosion trap the moment its lock is picked, so a treasure hunter needs this skill (or a very good healer). Remove Trap trains to 120 via Skill Scrolls, and the deepest chests need every point of it.
Defuse kits
Disarming requires a defuse kit — crafted by tinkers (20 ingots). Like lockpicks, kits made from colored ingots grant an effective skill bonus:
| Metal | Skill bonus |
|---|---|
| Iron | +0 |
| Shadow Iron | +5 |
| Copper | +10 |
| Bronze | +15 |
| Verite | +20 |
| Valorite | +25 |
Each disarm attempt consumes one charge from the kit.
How it works
Use the skill (or double-click the kit) and target the trapped chest:
- The lock must already be open — you cannot defuse a chest that is still locked, and a dungeon chest's pre-pick trap can't be touched at all.
- After a short pause the attempt resolves. The chest window shows your exact success chance with the selected kit.
- Failing does not set off the trap — you can simply try again with another charge.
- On success the trap is rendered harmless and the loot is safe to take.
If you skip the disarm and just open the chest, the trap detonates: explosion damage scales with chest level (the top chests hit very hard). The trap tables — which chest level needs which skill — are in Dungeon Chests and Treasure Maps.
Training 0 → 120
Remove Trap gains from disarm attempts on real chests, so it trains alongside Lockpicking on the same chest ladder:
- 0–40: buy points from a thief trainer, then defuse level 1–2 dungeon chest traps.
- 40–100: work up the chest levels as with Lockpicking; every level 2+ chest you crack is also a Remove Trap gain attempt.
- 100–120: level 5–6 chests (the level 6 trap needs up to 130 effective skill for a sure disarm — a valorite kit covers the gap).
Colored kits let you attempt traps above your raw skill. See Skills Overview for gain modifiers.
