Bowcraft & Fletching Mastery

One of the four crafting masteries. They share an identical perk structure and a single shared proc outcome roll — see also Blacksmithy, Tailoring and Carpentry. Like the gathering masteries they level from working, not from kills: every successful craft earns XP. See Skill Masteries for the system itself.

Requires Bowcraft & Fletching at 90.0
Taught by Bowyer — 10,000 gold
Ultimate Bowyer's Fortune

Perks

Perk Effect per level At level 8
Sure Flight Sure Flight +2.5% exceptional chance on every fletching craft +20%
Enchanted Fletching Enchanted Fletching +2.25 points on every magic attribute roll of the bows you make +18 points
Banestrung Banestrung (template) 0.4% chance that an exceptional bow or crossbow made from colored wood comes out a Slayer 3.2%

The perks only help the craft they belong to — a slotted Fletching mastery does nothing for your carpentry, and vice versa.

Sure Flight applies to everything the fletcher's tools make, arrows and bolts included — though only bows and crossbows carry magic rolls for the other two perks to act on. It stacks with the colored-tool and town bonuses.

Enchanted Fletching is the only way besides Magical Essence to push the magic rolls past what wood, tool and luck give — at level 8 it is worth almost twice the luck cap. It lifts the floor of the damage, accuracy and durability rolls, never the cap: a shadow wood bow still tops out at Ruin, it just gets there far more often.

Banestrung rolls on every exceptional bow or crossbow made from shadow wood or better — plain wood never qualifies. The slayer family is random, and a slayer bow hits its family twice as hard — for an archer the most valuable thing a fletcher can make. Slayer weapons never drop as random loot — only a few named artifacts carry one — so a Banestrung bow is the only slayer bow in the wood and magic tier you actually want.

Ultimate — Bowyer's Fortune

Fires on a successful craft at 0.3% per proc level (2.4% at level 8). The chance scales with the size of the craft: anything worth about 20 plain boards or more — a heavy crossbow, or any colored bow — rolls the full rate, while a batch of arrows rolls a small fraction, so the proc cannot be farmed on ammunition. One roll per craft action, "craft all" included. When it fires, one outcome is rolled — it never fizzles; an outcome that cannot apply falls through to the refund:

Outcome Chance Details
Materials refunded 52% Every board, shaft and feather the craft consumed comes back — essence included — and you keep the item
Charged weapon 20.5% The bow or crossbow becomes a charged magic weapon — its effect fires on every arrow that lands; ammunition takes the refund instead
Magical Essence 10% A pile worth the wood's essence tier — a valorite-wood craft pays 120 (plain wood takes the refund)
Mastery Gem 10% Fletching-matched
Mastery Soul 5% Fletching-matched
Mastery Fragment 2.5% Fletching-matched
Decorative Bow or Straw Dummy very rare A separate pre-roll before the outcomes above, a little likelier on big colored crafts; one of the two fletching rares at random — both are house addons placed from a deed, the bow hangs on a wall

Earning XP

Crafting masteries earn XP per successful craft, scaled by how much material it consumed and how rare it was. The multipliers run 1 / 3 / 5 / 8 / 12 / 18 per board from plain wood up to valorite (essence you burn counts like plain wood), so a valorite-wood bow levels the mastery 18× faster than a plain one — and a "craft all" run earns for every piece it makes, arrows included.
